Any Reason for the change?
Because the purpose of the system is to make helpful posts easier to find, rather than providing score-based reputation system solely to distinguish users.

Notice that at the top of each thread, there is a dropdown stating the top likes. If a thread is very large, the top results are usually those that have been the most helpful or to-the-point. In our new upcoming skin, the number of likes will replace thread ratings (which have already been disabled) and will be visible in the main thread listings.

If this isn't supposed to be retroactive, How did I go from 258 to 119?

Okay I am totally confused now. I do have over 1K posts, and 45 "likes" but the new requirement for Pentaxian says I have to have 75 as well? (Where's the 15 come from? Page says 75 down from 100?) If so does that mean I just lost my Pentaxian status that I just now got? (I still have it I think?) I sure hope not. I was really enjoying being one, finally...

Nobody should lose their status because of this, but there are two ways of getting it:
2years membership, 200+ posts and 75 likes, or
1years membership, 1000+ posts and 15 likes

...I think. The official numbers are in a sticky in this forum

Here is an interesting article in the WallStreetJournal about the "Likes" culture.

The Insidious Evils of 'Like' Culture - WSJ.com

Everyone has turned into a bunch of virtual, "like valley girls, like, ya know."

Neil Strauss ftw.

What I don't get is there will be, someday, literally millions of threads here or any other forum with 1-5 "likes." So how do we sort through the mediocrity, besides the time-honored tradition of sorting the forum by number of replies of thread views so the most popular/most viewed show up on top? If the thread is that good, it will have 5000+ views on a large forum like this.

At least with a reputation system, you can dole out negative rep. Till there's a "thumbs down" button next to the "thumbs up" one, like on YouTube, it's just going to create thousands of threads with 1 or 2 "likes," none of which are remarkable from the next.

Give me a "like" if you like that I don't care about who "likes" my posts!

There's a system? I just show up and starting yacking.

(Like in a movie theater.)

Hmm, I've fallen from 37 to 12.

This whole "likes" thing makes me feel like I'm back battling cliques in high school. That's one of the main reasons I don't like Facebook and such actually. It's too much like an adolescent popularity contest and I never was too into competing to be prom queen....

I'm really not interested in popularity contests.
Can I choose not to display "likes"?
