Laptops and post-processing aids

Hi Adam, Folks,
A suggestion related to creating a sub-forum for the discussion of post processing aids (e.g. tablets), and for recommended computer hardware (since the bulk of digital post-processing is in fact done on computers ). Review/comparison articles are also a possibility.

Cheers,
Aaron

So, are you proposing the addition of a new forum dedicated to editing accessories and hardware? I'd be happy to add that if there's interest. Post up, guys!

I don't see any difference between 'Box' and Laptop (performance wise). Most software that people run on a 'Box' I run on a Laptop, that also goes for running multiple screens.
But I agree with adding a Sub-Cat for Tablet/devices.

Only problem is that you must pay about double the price to get same performance in a Laptop. People are often mislead by processor branding. Core i5 in desktop is a 4 core processor, mobile version is only 2 core, same in some i7 variants.

One thing i would recommend to anyone for photo/video editing, laptop or desktop, is getting an ssd drive.

Sounds like we'll be adding this forum- and in the coming months, a general re-organization might be in order, as we're about to hit 2,000,000 posts and some forums are getting too crowded

I agree, people are often mislead about this one.

To cover a few specs out there which are available - for a price...

One can in fact get laptops that will outrun a majority of desktps out there. Origin PC is one such of those companies.
Imagine a laptop with a processor at; Intel Xeon X5690 3.46GHz LGA 1366 Hex-Core Processor (12MB L3 Cache); also able to be overclocked far above 3.75 - no issues. Or this added in... Single 4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA Quadro 5010M (4 GB of Total GFX) - Professional Workstation.

One may be able to find one or two Origins with a price point at or below 1k, but it's also quite easy to spend about 10k on one.
