Today I was trying to explain how to navigate through the K-30's menus to reach a certain option. It would have been easier to if there "smilies" representing the buttons, menu sections ("camera", "playback", "wrench", etc.), and other UI icons were available. I know one can add custom smilies, but that seems like a lot of work for just one post and, anyways, it would be better if they were standarized, I think.

EDIT: had read about the custom smiley option, but it seems it is only for subscribers?

Indeed, you need to be a site supporter to get access to the custom smilies. Personally I don't think it's that hard just to name the button, but I'll certainly take your thoughts into consideration! It is possible to add a "more smilies" link which could contain a host of various icons and symbols (in addition to more smilies, perhaps)

The pdf manuals from pentax have an embedded font for the UI icons, btw, that could be extracted to create the emoticons.

You can extract the ttf-files from the manual.
