Why is it that one can not like two posts by the same poster consecutively?

I don't "like" that.

I fail to see how giving someone a pat on the back for a job well done is in any way abuse.
Has the system ever been abused?

Abuse in this case would imply negative impact to others or an unfair advantage in some greater system... I doubt that's the case with likes?

Yes, the system has been abused in the past where people would like each others' posts just because they liked each other

As far as fancies go, you need a certain number of likes to get Pentaxian status. @Tonto - once you hit 75, for instance, you will get Pentaxian status, even if you don't have 1000 forum posts.
