Lens Review Database - Consistent Lens Description Section

This may have been suggested already, but it would make comparing lenses much more convenient if the lens description section for each lens was formatted consistently and used the same units (oz vs. grams, inches vs. cm, etc.).

Thanks,
Neil

grams and mm preferred. Only the US uses inches and oz.

I suggest - Describe each lens precisely as it was described by Pentax in its literature. That should settle most discussions.

For Pentax lenses they are all more or less consistent, aren't they?

Later this year I plan on launching a new equipment database which will contain lens reviews, in-depth reviews, serial numbers, and price histories all in one centralized area. The whole system is going to be custom-coded for our purposes, much like the current sample photo search engine was. In addition to being more centralized, the new DB will also make it easier to browse and update custom fields, and there will be more of them.

Hi Adam,

Yeah, you guys have done a great job with the Pentax lenses but the 3rd party could still use a little work. For example, I wanted to compare the size and weight of the DA 16-45mm to the Sigma 18-250mm but the format and units of the description were completely different.

I'm looking forward to the new equipment databse. Keep up the great work.

Thanks,
Neil

Right, that's because most of the third-party lenses are user-submitted. At the very least, we'll be bringing the specs for current lenses by Sigma and Tamron up to speed soon
