How about a "Post your Videos" forum to go along with "Post your Photos." As video capabilities improve we'll be seeing more and more of them.
this gets my vote. +1

I think the 'technique, lighting, and processing' forums could easily be combined into one.
I disagree.

These are very different topics and are worth keeping separate (unless they do not generate critical mass on their own).

Pentax Tutorials and Guides - PentaxForums.com (here's the new tutorial forum, where you can post local as well as external resources)
Why call it "Pentax Tutorials and Guides"?

Strictly speaking the first post is already off-topic, with the current "Pentax ..." title.
I'd keep that forum open to tutorials and guides that are not specifically about Pentax; which is I believe your intent as well, but it doesn't come across like that with a title like this.

This is my point... this is my observation... look at those sub forums...review the number of posts there... while they are totally different topics on their own...that critical mass (to me) doesn't warrant a complete seperation...

I agree that the intent isn't to be "Pentax specific"...but I'm not complaining. I will take what we got... the idea is to learn photography INCLUDING some things Pentax specific...but moreso just generally about photography...

What's the saying about looking gift horses in the mouth? LOL

On the topic of reorganising forums:

I googled for my old " Photographer's Library" library thread and Google reports back with the URL

http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pentaxforums.com%2Fforums%2Fprofessional-photography-publications%2F39316-photographers-library.html

but that does not redirect to the new location

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/137-photographic-industry-professionals/39316-photographers-library.html.

It would be nice if Google search results would still find the correct thread, despite reorganisation work.

All the old URLs should be redirecting properly now. If you spot any that aren't (make sure you clear your browser cache first), let me know ASAP as it's very important that the redirects be set up correctly.

It's critical that all old thread URLs redirect to the new ones, and also important that the old forum links go to the new ones. I've added an ID to all forum URLs so that forums names can be changed in the future without breaking any links.

Adam - in your forum changing I found a spelling mistake - the title for the forum "Flashes, Lighting, and Studio" reads "Flashes, Flighting, and Studio"

Thanks for catching that!

It's definitely for both- and it still seems like the Pentax crowd isn't very interested in video.

On a side node, I'd still like to add 1 or 2 new sections related specifically to photography or photo sharing, as as it is right now I think our site is skewed a bit too far toward gear. Further suggestions would be welcome!

I'd be sad to see the GR forum go, seeing how its rather more comparable to the K-01 as an APS-C camera than to the other compacts with smaller sensor sizes.

What about combining the K-01 and GR in "Ricoh Pentax APS-C compacts/mirrorless"?
Two entirely different beasts...there's no reason to mix the two IMO. The GR still has its own section as I'm sure it will stick around for a while!

I agree with you in that the forum seems skewed toward gear. Not that talking about our gear is a bad thing, but it would be nice for some pure photographic talk. I'm going to put some thought into this. I find that way too often, people, myself included, automatically think that better gear is going to make better pics. We need to be able to talk about the art of photography some more - the basic process of capturing light.

Just thinking out loud here.........after I walked away from this for a few minutes this came to me.

Photo posting sections. The "Post Your Photos" thread is generic in a way, which is fine. But a lot of other gems are buried in other threads such as the "300mm lens thread" and "15mm controls my mind" etc. Most of which I am talking about are in the Lens Club section. This alone kind of shows what you were talking about Adam of the site being gear orientated. I will admit to being more interested in wildlife, and 90% of the best birding shots are in the 300mm lens club thread. Rarely do any of our top wildlife photographers post their great pics in the "Post Your Photos" thread - maybe because it is just too generic?

How about a revamp of Photo Sharing and Galleries section?

Add such categories as Wildlife and or Birds, Landscapes, Portraits, Macro, etc. This way those fantastic images that are buried in gear type threads would be more visible to everyone. Just now while taking my time looking through the Lens Club section, I know I haven't visited many of those threads in a long time because they are lens specific and not subject/genre specific. If I were new to the site, how would I find Macro or Landscape shots? If the Photo Sharing section had categories like a suggest above, they would be easy to find and I believe get many more views.

The Takumar Club is one of the longest threads on the site and the photo:comment ratio is something like 4 out of 5. I get your point!!

I think we already have a thread for that, but perhaps this would make for a great guest homepage post!
