I am starting to think I don't want to get an email whenever there's a new post. Can I turn that service off?

In theory, yes, but I've got it turned off and still get them for a few stubborn threads .............every freakin' day.

You can update your current subscriptions here:

and you can control the default subscription type here:

I recommend the "notification in user cp only" option so that you get a notification on the forum when someone replies to your threads.
