Contest Entries?
Hello Diane, Welcome to the Forum!
You should be able to see any of the current or past entries on the various weekly or monthly (or other, themes like 'Single in March' , 'Show us your reflections' etc.) contests or challenges here on Photo Sharing.
In another thread, I saw where you asked about the various forums for posting photos. My take on it is this;
Post Your Photos- A general, fast-changing place to post new photos, not exactly a place for a detailed critique, but if you ask a specific question about your photo, usually you'll get some feedback. A place to show your latest work, with friendly, positive vibes.
Photo Critique- This is the place to post when you have a specific question about the photo, or a new processing technique, or composition, etc. Here, you are asking for feedback, good or bad. And you'll usually get it, good or bad!
Challenge- A specific theme, lens, subject, etc. Water, the color red, trees, Bokeh, you get the idea. Not usually a contest, per se, more like a sort of practice exercise to get your mind working towards a goal with your photos. Great for learning!
Weekly, Monthly Contest- Just what it seems. Last week's (or, month's) winner selects a new theme. Usually a clear concept, often with example photos showing the general idea. The past winner also is the judge (usually) and anyone can post an entry. Also, usually some qualification that a Pentax-brand camera is used (not always) or the photo has been taken during a certain time frame.
After the time period expires, the contest is closed to entries, winners chosen and announced by the judge, who starts a 'Winners of March 15th to 22nd 'Snow and Ice' contest. THAT winner becomes the new judge and gets to pick the new subject.
As far as I know, there's no real 'Prize' for winning, it's for fun, experience, trying new ideas and comparing your efforts to others, within certain guidelines and restrictions. It really helps to look at all the entries, see how others respond to the same idea. Also, see which photos place higher or generate the most 'Likes'. You'll get an idea of the quality and standards it takes to place.
Posting is a bit like sticking your 'photo' toe into the water. You're opening yourself up to the comments and feedback of other photo enthusiasts, much more so in 'Critique', that's what it's for!
Good luck!
Ron
