Ebay auctions

seems there has been a complaint about people posting live auctions here because it cost them getting the item. i'm all for limiting ebay postings to ONLY auctions that have expired. how do you feel.
Yes or No ??
If a newb comes along any memeber should ask them to delete it because of and unwritten agreement among members.

I don't have a problem with it myself, and i buy things from ebay all the time.
Then again, I have never had an item snatched from me either. I usually have a cap on what I am willing to buy the item for anyway, and if someone else gets it, I would rather it be one of my new friends on here.

i am a new member and i have posted a live auction...

actually, i just read that thread, but IMO, it should be that the seller only can post links... like, none of those "look what i found" posts... that would make it fair...

I'm totally in agreement with this.

I don't see the problem with posting links to auctions, unless the seller is spamming the site trying to plug his auction. If people have questions or comments, that's a little different to me.

As for "costing" someone an item, I've never understood that complaint. Bid what you want to pay, and if someone outbids you and you're upset, then you should've bid more. I've lost things at the last minute, but only because someone paid more than I wanted to pay. Just my $0.02 worth....

Ok here's my 2 cents....

I think from a buyer's point of view, I bid on an auctioned item in order to get a bargain price, not really pay what the item is worth.

From a seller's point of view, you auction off an item to get the best price possible...even if that means getting more than what the item is worth.

Soooooo.......I think that if you're a member here and you are the seller on ebay or wherever, advertise your items here. If you're not the seller, let it be or wait until the auction has closed.

Actually I benefited from people posting these ebay links some time ago...

I still remembered a lens Fa* 300mm f4.5 being advertised only to US ebayers but the seller was based in New Zealand. He or she was happy to send the lens worldwide. This listing failed to be advertised to people in Australia at all.

I saw this post on DPR and made my series of biddings ... so on.

Without that post regarding the listing, I would not be able to even have a chance to give it a go and I thanked the person who posted it for me.

To ban people posting ebay links could be reasonable for certain sections of this forum (to keep forum tidy rather than intermingled with random adverts)

However, banning ebay listings in this forums for the sake of other people picking up bargains is a decision up to the forum administrator. This forum is designed for pentax users to interact each other and perhaps debate or exchange information and experiences. Communications regarding what ebay has on offers at anytime can be made public here.

I am starting to have a gut feeling there will be more and more rules imposed in this forum if we are heading this direction. This is like 99% of the population wants to build a nuclear plant in my backyard and I am that only one person protesting the decision - majority wins because this process is democratic and majority is always right?

My 2 cents too

I say there shoudl be no restrictions to posting ebay auctions. For one thing, anyone could find the same auction if they were to look hard enough. All you realy have to do is type in a price range in the search and you're good to go. Furthermore, I believe that banning restricting them will lead to other restrictions. Think of this for example. What happens when other members post good bargain lenses on here from KEH? what happens when they find a good deal on craigslist? Many poeple dont realize taht many people wait until the last day to bid, i know of some that wait until even the last 5 minutes then bid like high hell. For FA lenses, im sure by day one, there are a lot of watchers just waiting for the last day to bid on the lens. That is the main reason i get my lenses from KEH or other online stores that sell used k mount lenses. you dont hve the problem snatching up bargains if you go that route.

People from another forum i frequent at are always sharing good bargains with other members, so why shouldnt we?

Your also not considering items that have a buy it now price! There are no bids on those. Also, another reason someone may post a link could be someone with a question about an item. There are alot of newbies on here, myself included, who may be asking about an item and posts a link for someone with more experience to help them out! We come here to learn from each other.
Another reason someone may want to post a link is that it may be helping someone who is looking for something in particular, then we may share a link with them.
I am totally against banning links to the auctions, just because someone is upset they got outbid! How do you know you got outbid by someone on this forum anyway? Thats a little childish to be upset that you got outbid by someone, that's what an auction is. If you were going to a live auction, would you not take a friend in fear he may outbid you on something you both want?!

If I find a good deal on ebay and it helps another member here find something they are looking for, or that it's helpful to them, then I am going to let them know about it. Now, I am not going to go find every pentax item and list it for everyone.

I've got no problem with the Q&A aspect of this topic. I do have a problem with this site becoming either DPR or EB adjuncts. Both of those sites have their own forums--why not just leave their stuff there?

Roy posted this poll as a response to my thread in the Off Topic forum of the site.

It had nothing to do with how much you bid and when you bid and when you get outbid and sniping. It is all about those people that run into a hidden hard to find auction where a REAL bargain could have been had, and are not interested in it, but instead of sending their buddy who is looking something like that a PM or Email, they broadcast the link in 3 on line forums.

Like the motto: If I don't get the bargain, at least nobody else will get it either. he he nice.

That's what this is all about. BTW - if you find the lens you've been looking for, for 2 years yourself, and it's listed and misspelled in the Minolta section by mistake, are you going to broadcast that Ebay link everywhere? No - you won't!

All I was asking for is that people showing this courtesy to others.

I wouldn't broadcast it, and neither would most people, but I feel banning this type of posting on a forum is a bad idea. That's allI am trying to get across. Forums are fun, but when you start imposing rules on everything, people will move on to other forums, myself included.
The normal rules against spam, porn and etc. are fine, but saying you can't share a deal that someone on here may want or need is not cool. It could be an unwritten, gentlemens agreement type rule, but making it rule that could get you banned or the forum members hating you wouldn't be worth it.

It's not about rules; it is about common sense. If I see a bargain but don't really want the item, how can I transmit that information to a friend without spoiling the bargain?

Placing the info on one forum is bad enough to cause a frenzy in the bidding; posting on three is like actively chumming-it blood in the water and all that-the end result is a buddy gets screwed. Surely we can all see that.

Perhaps what we need is a forum where people leave a list of their greatest 'desires' and contact info.

It would need to be sticky and the users would be required to police their posts (if you get something remove it from your list-this would be the only rule).

With such a list, scrounges could find prospective buyers for all these bargains and not tip-off the entire world in the notification process. That would be a useful buddy system.

Yes, amazingly a nice even split, but I think it is because there is such a hard line on the choices in the poll. What would be a third option?
