Mac won't connect to Pentaxforums.com

Strangest thing.....after posting an item for sale on the market place my Mac hasn't been able to connect to the Pentaxforums.com server and ONLY that server. I come to work and have no problem at all. I've rebooted and tried a different browser. Any suggestions would be appreciated as it is hard to sell stuff when you can't reply at home.

Thanks!

that is odd, since I'm on my mac at home typing this...

sounds like perhaps some mal-ware? dump the browsers' cache?

I'll give it a try when I get home. However since I tried a different browser unsuccessfully. Maybe the server flagged my I.P. for some reason?

Your computer is probably referencing a cached DNS record.* This is something to take up with your Internet provider since they probably provide your DNS service. You also might consider doing a power cycle on your broadband modem on the possibility that the cached record is there.

Steve

* Pentax Forums changed over to a different server this last weekend. IIRC, requests to the old server were redirected to the new one while waiting for DNS caches across the Web to time-out. I would expect that the old server is no longer active. It is unusual for a cached value to be retained for more that 12-24 hours, but not unheard of. BTW...DNS is short of Domain Name Service. It is the system that maps domain names to numeric addresses on the Web. When a server (e.g. www.pentaxforums.com) changes addresses, it is a big deal with potential for confusion if the name:address entries are cached somewhere.

Steve I think you're right...I'm at home running a hot spot off my phone and it works just fine. Using Wifi @ home the phone can't get the website so clearly it is either the router or all the way back to the ISP server. I sent a help ticket in so lets see what happens. Thanks for all the help!

Look up how to clear your DNS cache from the command line. Another browser might also work

Did you try power-cycling (power-down restart) the router? That should clear the local cache, if one exists.

Hi Jezzeppi,

Open a Terminal session and type in: nslookup pentaxforums.com

To match my result here, the response should give a non-authoritative answer of 66.147.237.63

Tech support chat for an hour yesterday was no help. Power reset on the router allows the site to load the splash page and then it goes right back to not loading anything else. I'm "borrowing" a long network cable from work to bypass Wifi tonight to see if that resolves it. Fun times!

OK....local tech support tells me the PentaxForums.com servers must be blocking my i.P. address. Who can I contact for something like that?

I've just gotta thank Adam the Pentaxforums.com administrator for getting my account back up online so quick after asking for help!
