Originally posted by Racer X 69 So instead of stars, medals, trophies and such let's talk about words. Words can have more than one meaning, and when strung together a given combination of words can have various meanings. And of course whatever meaning or intent the author may have had when stringing words together, the reader may see otherwise. In fact that happens often when we interact with the written word. I say something, in a discussion, with an idea in my head, and 10, 50 or a thousand people read it, and some of those people may not see the same idea that I saw. Well that happened here yesterday. And I may have screwed up. I strung some words together, with a bit of a chuckle in my head, and rather than seeing that idea that was in my head, one of you saw something else. It offended you. It always hurts me deeply when I manage to offend someone I consider a friend. I truly did not wish to offend anyone, but it is too late to un press the submit button. Sure, posts can be deleted, but the memory lingers. My attempt at a wisecrack was poorly chosen. So anyway, let me take this moment to reach out to @Dartmoor_Dave, to express my most sincere apology.
Racer, I've sent a reply to your PM and I want to publicly apologise myself for over-reacting when I should have known you had no intention of causing offence. This whole gold stars thing came along at a time when I was in no mood to deal with it, after several months of major hassle caused by unwanted changes to software and websites out there in my real-world life. The revised version of the stars are a lot easier on the eye, and I like the idea of a competition for a more photography-related replacement for the stars and medals.
