Just because not everyone has a screen thats 27" (or more) wide. I dont know if people don't know how to reduce the size of their photos but its becoming a real pest when you cannot see an entire photo without having to scroll (as on my laptop) or in the case of my iPad, the entire site gets squashed to the left, because the photo is displayed in its entirety.

I'd suggest no more than 1024 on the longest side, or if showing from flickr, choose a smaller size for display.

Sue, you can control the photo display size yourself. Click on My Account at upper right, then click Edit Options. From there, look for the Thread display options. You can enter a value for maximum photo width and height. Photos exceeding these values will be resized to whatever sizes you entered.

I have to defend the wide screen option.... pictures look so much better view at 2560. Even better at 3840.
