Originally posted by todd Hello fine folks. I was alerted by a fellow member that he couldn't see my shared images since a couple nights ago. I've changed nothing but unless I am logged into the site, I cannot see them either. I've been investigating and so far as I can tell, it's something that is going on with the Pentax Forums board itself, although I'm not positive about this.
I am embedding the same as I've always done and have checked the posts from three different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Opera). If I am not logged in to PF, the picture doesn't show, but there is a link that says "Click to view photo" that works (if I include a link along with the embedded image). If I log into PF no matter which browser, then I see the images as normal.
I tested on an MFT forum I've been dabbling in, and posted some images there, and whether I am logged into their forum or not, the images display as normal. If this cannot be resolved, or until it can be, I will add a link to my PF posts with the link to the picture page on my site going forward but it would of course be nice to continue being able to share from my domain as I've been doing for many years..
There is an embedded image with a link here at the bottom of this post.
Earlier this week, we changed the default value of the "Load Insecure External Photos"
setting to "No". This means that embedded images hosted on http servers will by default be turned into a link. This prevents browser security warnings and improves everyone's privacy.
You can get around this in one of two ways:
-change your preference to "Yes"
-convert your embeds to use secure links (https) rather than http
The latter is the preferred method, as then your photos will always show up regardless of others' preferences.
Starting with Chrome 68, which was released just days ago, all http sites are labeled "not secure". If you rely on third-party image hosting, it's almost certain that secure links will become available in the near future as the whole ecosystem is rapidly shifting away from unencrypted sites. If you run your own web site, your hosting provider should be able to set up https for you for free, i.e. by using LetsEncrypt certificates.
Note that as soon as this change is made, all your embeds should start showing up again - you don't need to go back and change everything you've posted on the forum. We automatically convert links from http to https for you
