Making pictures smaller?

When I link to my website pictures they appear really big on this site. Is there any way to constrain them to a smaller dimension in my tag? Example....

Many photo processing programs will let you downsize pictures for web posting.

If the image is wider than 800 pixels, you may use [imgwide] tags instead of [img] tags to constrain the size. If it's too tall, you're out of luck, and will have to use an image processor as Tom suggested.

The attachment system should be able to resize overdimensional files that satisfy filesize constraints, however.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping there was some html i could implement to shrink to size rather than editing the files themselves which I don't want to do.
