Best of threads

Just a suggestion... maybe make a "Best of 2008" subforum in the post your pics forum and move all the "best of" threads in it?

Just my 2¢

Pat

I'll pass the idea on to Adam. There have been a large number of these the last few days.

I thought this idea of subdividing post your photo forum had been suggested quite a few times and the answer was pretty much obvious...

While this alternative would require a great deal of cooperation, perhaps I can arrange a top-20 photos category in the Gallery that would be based on threads in the Post Your Photos forum.

Again, this is something I will get to in January, when I'm back from my holiday visits.

Personally, I think that there are already too many categories and sub categories. You have to almost read the minds of the moderators and administrators to make sure you're posting in the right place as it is.

If anything, I think there should be fewer categories, not more.

It is in deed confusing to have too many catogories.

Lots of old friends from DPR pentax SLR section find the forum to perplexing to use and hard to follow. I think I like the way it is at the moment. To further subdivide the post your photo section into multiple subfora could be potentially a disaster... I see many photo forums go downhill spiral once the subdivision of photo posting section started... This is predominantly due to diversion of attention from users to browse all images. Many forum members' posts are unanswered. The vicious cycle goes on, leaving no one to post ...

I think having some categories in the Post Your Photo section is both logical and actually helps forum users to quickly zero in and find a particular type of image. I honestly don't know why it hasn't been done.

As it is, every different type of image is lumped together, leading to the situation where some have had to resort to offbeat titles for their posts to try to stand out. Secondly, posts get pushed back very quickly if everyone happens to post, leading to a situation where one would have to scroll through several pages to find the relevant post, which defeats the purpose of being able to quickly track and find a post.

I disagree with the assertion that it would cause confusion and it actually helps to have some general and broad categories like:
- Portraits/Studio/Wedding,
- Landscapes/CItyscapes,
- Still Life/Abstracts,
- Street/Candids,
- Nature/Macro,
- Alternative/Specialised, IR, etc.

I hope the Mods will take up this suggestion.

It certainly would help in cases like Post your best (BEST OF 2008------ --------) and having 8-10 new threads.
Be simpler to have it in a catagory by itself with sub posts, Portrait, Landscape, Nature, ect.
At present, (in post your pohoto,s) they will occupy top portion of the forum for a very long time.

I like this hierarchy and will consider something to its effect for the gallery.

A forum with no categories is confusing, difficult to browse, and tough on search engines; while a forum with too many sections becomes hopelessly convoluted and lengthy. As our forum evolves, I'm trying to find the perfect balance- as you may or may not have noticed, the number of categories on our site is relatively small compared to similarly-sized forums on other topics, yet it has remained mostly consistent since the site's launch, as I'm trying to make browsing as easy for our users as possible.

Pointers and suggestions are thus always welcome, and I always appreciate posts such as the one I'm quoting. Thanks a lot!

I think it would be a good idea to match it as closely as possible to the Gallery, keeps things tidy.

Finally we are seeing "post your photo section" to be subdivided into a few sections. A long two years
