Review of Market Thread

I dont know if this will get past first base but I would like to suggest a rethink on the Market Thread Rules.

I am a member of Manual Focus Forum, and to actively be involved in the Market section on that Forum, you have to be an active member, with some positive involvement in the forum or have posted photos on the Forum.
The idea being that one time members who join to make a quick sale and run are not able to peddle their wares.

Could this be worth a thought? I only am putting this up to hear others' opinions, as personally, I think there may be some value in looking into this.

Cheers..

Do you mean restricting posting in the Marketplace to only users who are active on the rest of the forum?

I've already given this some thought earlier, and found that it would just lead to spamming in the forum. The Marketplace is offered as a service to all Pentax photographers, and I'd like everyone to make the most of it! If certain people would like to register only to buy and sell, that's fine. However, it is a different story if people try to sell gear commercially - that's never allowed.

How does restricting market participation serve either the buyer or the seller or your forum members? Assuming, of course, that all offers to buy or sell are legitimate.

If I have a Tak 105mm to sell and one of your members is looking for the same how does it serve your members interests to prevent me from from making an offer to sell simply because I'm not a member?

It seems to me the purpose of a market is to bring legitimate buyers and sellers together and nothing more.

I would turn your suggestion on it's head and, in the case of a market thread, allow anyone to buy or sell on it within certain ethical guidelines.

Noproblem. As stated in the last posting from Wildman, LEGITIMATE buyers and sellers.
My thought was simply to cater for that specifically.
It just seems to me that there are a lot of names came up in the market thread, never seen before or since, and makes one wonder about the involvement in the Forums.

I was not trying to restrict trade in any way, but just was considering that very thing "legitimacy".

I enjoy, and use the Marketplace as much as any other member, so no worries,
it was just a thought

Illegitemate sellers are few and far between, and the moderators usually sniff them out before their thread is noticed by the public. Therefore, there's no need to restrict posting in the marketplace.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.
