How do I create a shortcut....

....in my signature block like "PPG" instead of having the whole URL for a link?

Heinrich: Form it just like this, and replace "yewrl" with "url" - without the quotes. That should do it.

[yewrl=http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/heinrichlohmann]PPG[/yewrl]

Yep, that's the only way you can do it, as far as I can tell.

If HTML had been enabled, you could have done it like this:

Code:
<a href="http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/heinrichlohmann">PPG</a>

In the upper right corner is the box to alternate enable/disable HTML Code display. With CODE enabled, insert the full URL using the insertion dialog as usual

PPG

A second instance of your URL will be highlighted before the Close URL box. Replace the second instance of the URL with your shortcut.

To check the entry, hover your mouse over the shortcut. The URL should display in the lower left linkbar of your browser (at least it does in Firefox).

But it isn't!

Here's what you want - just copy this and paste!

[url=http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/heinrichlohmann]PPG[/url]

I must say, the "yewrl" above made me chuckle a bit. If you ever want to post examples of live BBCode, simply wrap it with [noparse] tags and it won't be parsed.

Yet you have to admit that adding a "y" is much much easier than adding [noparse] tags.

I code for a living. Thanks for the tip. I was not aware of noparse tag.

Besides, it was kind of meant to be funny... glad it hit the mark.
