Social networking features: would you use them?

Our forum software has the capability of providing links to social networking sites (a.k.a linkbacks) so that you can share thread content on those sites. While I decided to initially disable this system, the popularity of social networking sites has made me reconsider things.

I'd therefore like to run a poll to see how many of you would find such features useful! Services supported would include digg, delicious, facebook, and a few others. Each thread would then have a link to instantly be shared on the social networking sites.

Thanks a lot for the input!

Not only would I not use them, I would actively avoid them. Facebook/etc already feels like a parasite that I use out of social obligation ... I enjoy PentaxForums, and would like to keep it separate.

After reading this news story today:

Surprise! Wife's face used in Facebook singles ad - The Red Tape Chronicles - MSNBC.com

I don't think it would be a good idea for a photographic forum.

I too wouldn't use it, Adam, but I'm not actively averse to the concept either.

I'd have to say that I wouldn't use the feature, although I am on facebook. I would worry about someone "using" images on the site. Don't get me wrong, the more members, the better, but we know that members and visitors here are here to discuss photography.

Troll Heaven

I've never touched those places.

And Twitter is ghoulish. Sort of like the 90's guy who scheduled his morning bathroom breaks in his Day Planner. I don't want to know, so stop typing!!!

I can just picture 100 Canon trolls joining, making one negative post each and then Digg voting each others' posts over and over and over . . . .

It wouldn't interest me at all. "I'm too old for this shit" is the expression, I believe.

Add me to the "no's" I only use Facebook for promotion and to keep in touch with family. Twitter baffles me and seems so self indulgent.

While I see most of the negativity is directed at facebook, I'm sure the primary focus of the system would be digg and delicious. Point taken, though.

I decided to add an http chatbox instead of IRC, and made it very discrete. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/groups/
