Long-Term Site Improvement Suggestions

I've started thinking about some long-term projects that could enhance the user experience here at PentaxForums. If you guys have any further ideas, feel free to post or build on what I'll be writing here.

Please start a new thread for smaller suggestions that could be readily implemented, however.

Improved Gallery / Personal Albums

Possibility of including a JS slideshow.
Possibility of using the forum album system.

Lens Review Database: Features

Additional field for camera combination.

Camera Review Database: Content

Add M42 bodies.

Post Your Photos

Addition of a "Fix my photo" section.

Homepage

Addition of articles and improvement of splash page content.

#####################
#####################

General (Done!)

Improve site header

Lens Review Database: Lenses (Done!)

Adding DA-L lenses.
Adding a page describing the lens series.
Adding tech. info tables to all lenses (Done!)

User CP / Quicklinks Improvements (Done!)

Moving many of the links found in the "Statistics" tab to Quicklinks and the User CP
Revision to the link found under Quicklinks

Profile Improvements (Done!)

Easier navigation and better layout

Mobile Skin Improvements (Done!)

Subscribe/Mark forum read for individual forums

Dedicated Marketplace Category (Done!)

Improve usability (added one-click item removal option)

Marketplace
-For-Sale
-Wanted
-Archives
--Sold Items
--Expired Threads

(An automatic thread expiration system would be active for all the FS and wanted sections; threads would be moved the corresponding archive section automatically. Threads with no activity for over 120 days months will automatically be moved to the expired section.)

Ignore List (Done!)

Ability to ignore forums (in User CP options)

#####################

That's it for now- I'm sure I'll come up with more later.

A slidehow capability in the Gallery (both personal & subject-specific) would be nice, with an "I"(nfo) option to overlay camera/lens/exposure info (specifically request/extract exposure info when adding a photo to the gallery) and/or user comments.

Dan.

That's definitely doable and I'm sure people would like it. Consider it added to the list

I would like having forums and subforums for location specific discussions. I think there would be much more activity that way as opposed to the Social Groups. I know that that could end up being *many* groups though.

How many layers thick can the forum tree be?

Could it be like Europe->Germany->Berlin; Europe->Germany->Frankfurt?

You could set it up only down to US State and Country level and add sub groups upon request and appropriateness.

Yes I do, and it's not out of the question- though it's not at the top of my list.

I'm happy to announce that tomorrow something nice will be happening to the camera reviews

There is a column for threads and another column for total posts.
Could there not be a column for the number of responses to a particular thread?

It is okay to say my idea is whacked. I would not be offended.

Nope, that's would be entirely redundant. Replies are listed for individual threads within a forum.

Just curious as to the possibility of incorporating streaming video so users can upload "how to's" or upload videos of an overall view of the items they're selling.

Just a suggestion.

I've recently added youtube and vimeo BBCode for this purpose. Streaming/downloadable video is unfortunately outside of the scope of our site at the moment.

As a convienence factor, a spell checker that does not require an external download would be nice.
