Ability to Ignore General Talk

New Feature: Ability to Ignore General Talk

I've finally been able to add a feature that will allow you to ignore the General Talk forum for those of you who find the heated political threads and rants within to be annoying.

This system will remove General Talk from your forum listings and prevent any threads from General Talk from being shown in "New Posts" and "Today's Posts" should you choose to use it. If you bookmark the forum section, you will still be able to access it, however. To enable this system, please visit the bottom of your User CP Options page: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions

Other FAQ's:
Will you be adding a more comprehensive ignore system that allows ignoring of individual threads?
-No.

Will you allow us to ignore other forums?
-Probably not. And definitely not the terrific site news forum! tongue

This is a welcome addition Adam.
Thanks for doing this - it'll come in handy.

Are responses from ignored members still to show up as an empty post on threads?

I think a great feature to customize the forum as you like it. Hope the membership sees this and takes advantage of the feature.

Thanks Adam, much appreciated.
Maybe in your next life, YOU get to be the USER while the rest of us have to cater to your wishes. Good luck with that!

Not a bad idea, but if you use it, wouldn't it prevent you from accessing the "Gatherings, Events and Photo Trips" subforum? Perhaps that subforum, which IS photography related, should be moved into the PHOTOGRAPHY forum... I've never thought it fit down in General Talk anyway.

It sort of goes hand-in-hand with social groups, so I guess I could make it a main forum and then add the link to social groups as a sub-forum.

This is a useful stopgap solution until keyword filters can be implemented.

Implemented for about a week. Browsing is a much happier experience - blood pressure back to normal

Keyword filters? I.e. the ability to ignore threads individually by keyword? I unfortunately won't be implementing this feature.

I'm not surprised, I imagine that'd be pretty hard on server resources! If you ask me, the ability to lock the forum out of browsing, searches etc. is plenty.

It's more of a security concern than anything, as people would be able to ignore important annoucements I wouldn't want them to miss. Our server is quite capable, especially since our recent hardware upgrades and software optimizations.
