First heading at the top.
Sorry, but I really can't find it. Can you post a screenshot? First heading I see on my Options page is "Login & Privacy" with "Use Invisible Mode" and"Allow vCard Download" options.

Ah, whoops! It should be right there, but that option actually isn't available to members. If you and others feel that the reputation comments pane gets in the way, I may move it down below other user cp content instead.

It would be nice to have, but don't add it just for me.

I've noticed that even if I hide the Reputation section, it still shows up later in a different browsing session - looks like the section display state is stored in a cookie instead of being server based.

Indeed, collapse status is client-side, and highly browser-dependent. The rep system is still more or less being test driven, so rest assured that if we find something wrong with it, we'll fix it.

Not only does vBulletin's reputation system suck, but I think the idea in general is sort of redundant. Would you rather get kudos in a post, or kudos through a little notification box labeled reputation? If you ask me, therefore, it's just a waste of space.
Taking the weekend off from working -- my god, when will it end -- and having dome some PP work and posting, I understand this concern of yours now. My rep has increased by 10, but no comment to my new thread, and one comment to my posts in another thread, that were on the same topic and fairly edjamacational.

I wonder if it's possible and easy to look into the user's session and not permit rep'ing another user in a thread unless they recently updated that thread; with the assumption that info is even available within their active session. ... if that makes sense. Again, not intending to 'make work', just wondering. Or perhaps merge the applying of rep w/a thread comment, and one automatically adds the other?

That would definitely make a lot of work

I suppose it wouldn't be bad to see a reputation interface on the newreply page (advanced editor). Only problem with that is you can't really specify which post you're replying to.

Your suggestion about dateline isn't bad, and it would also be east to implement- but I've actually seen myself leaving rep for year-old posts myself! Thus, I don't see any determinate firm cutoff.

You are right! That type of reader behavior was what I was hoping for too, even referred to in my last sentence of the OP but forgotten by me, so strike all that line of reasoning of mine. There wasn't enough clarity of thought there from me.
