FWIW every other site I've participated in that has had this function saw it abused frequently. The positive/negative ability will create cliques of like-minded people who feed off each other and detract from others. YMMV.

Although this idea appeals to me and seems like a good idea in theory, I agree.

Well that didn't last long- maybe I'm going senile but I thought The first time I looked at this I saw something about the ability to leave negatives , now I don't.
If this function has been removed , it's probably a good idea in the big picture.
Oh there it is -never mind
So how do you do it?

Interesting. I clicked on someone's little green + to see what would happen, then changed my mind.

Lo and behold, there is no way to back out and NOT give approval. ESC didn't get me out, CTRL-Z didn't get me out.

So, what happens if we change our mind or accidentally click on the little green +?

I just clicked somewhere away from the reputation box and it disappeared.

Yeah, perhaps a little "X" in the corner or a third option killing the screen might be more intuitive, but that's what worked for me too.

Adam, thanks for trying this. It is certainly a feature worth trying out.

What are the reputation badges / titles one can have?
What does it mean if someone is on a "distinguished road"? Is that the lowest score possible?
I have to re-work the reputation phrases, but I'm pretty sure that one means you have a score of 10+ (10 being the default).

Yeah, you can just carry on or click somewhere else. The box (like and dropdown on the forum) doesn't prevent you from navigating the rest of the page, and is enabled/disabled upon click.

In order to prevent this, users can't leave more than 10 rep comments per day.

Senior members can also leave negative reputation, but doing so is not advised.

Gotta ask - what is the purpose of ANY system, where you can leave positive feedback but not negative?
To make the world a happier place The basic gist is this- If you like something, say thanks. If not, move on. See m8o's thread for further discussion on this topic.

Also, to answer someone else's question about the icons:
You start with a green medal with a silver star, and then they get build up and eventually become gold.

If I had 1000 reputation points, perhaps the icons would look like this:

A rose by any other name...

Just about all my comments are positive and come my from years of experience. When it comes right down to it, I’ll say things the way I see them!

Unfortunately, I've had more than one person interpret what I say the wrong way. Generally they are people who don’t understand American English too well. Then I spend a few minutes teaching them what the comment really ment!

It seems like a good idea but I'm too old to worry about points! "Damned the torpedoes... full speed ahead!"

Are these displayed somewhere or can you only see your own (by clicking on the plus sign next to your name)?
