Hi fs999. A fantastic shot. I'm intrigued to know how you captured this. A "Shadow" it is for sure no matter how it was captured. And therefore a deserved winner.
Taking in to account the speed of the Plane and the area of the background on which the shadow appears, I roughly estimate one would have less than one Sixth of a Millisecond in which to press the button, at the same time having an eye on tracking the plane?

Semi auto ? I didn't track the shadow, but the awacs. The shadow is the cherry on top

Idk how this photo won, the theme was "Shadows".. it is more thanobvious that that the main focus in this picture is everything but that tiny little shadow. To me the Sun is the main part. It is what iscasting all the REFLECTIONS on the buildings... and everyone knows thatreflections are caused by light not shadows... I’m sorry, I didn’t enter into the contest,so I don’t have to pretend like I am happy for the winner, and photography isart so it can be critiqued, So can the people who voted... so everyone whovoted for this, What were you thinking!!! The shadow in this picture is the last thing a personnotices when looking at the photo. Next time there is a shadow contest I willtake a picture of a famous person and everyone will vote for my photo because itssomeone famous, But hey it counts because there is a shadow on the ground....

When fs999 says he tracked the "Awacs", I interpretate this as filming all the aircraft as they are travelling across the sky. Quote: tracking the "Awacs" Unquote. The camera having a "Fish-eye" lens picked up the shadow.
The "Cherry on top" is one or more frames showing the shadow The theme was "SHADOWS". This is a shadow so I cannot see how it can be faulted?
Maybe the organisers can clarify the rules regarding the method of achieving the result.
