So what are those single pixels white-ish halos around each bird, including their feet where there are no feathers?

Has to do with size reduction I think - not there in the original (even at 200% enlargement) but, of course I didn't see any reason to blow it up over 100%. This one looks like it is at least 400% and, to be honest, I think any image would pixilate at that size.
