Dear Bruno,

This highly professional, *gorgeous* photograph displays perfect pre-visualization and sophisticated technique, with your primary flash cleverly hidden behind the car to fire forward like headlamps, and additional off-camera fill from camera-right (perhaps the headlights from your vehicle or another flash or two?) to bring out the colors of the old junker car and to add depth and dimensionality to the subject. Lying here in the early morning dark, I found myself unconsciously running my thumb over the top of my screen to remove specks of dust before realizing you had somehow managed to capture the stars (!) as well as the striking clouds against a deep blue, almost black sky. Since this photo approaches perfection, I should be more critical than usual and suggest it could have been improved by removing or disguising the shadow of the person standing off of camera-right, although the circumstances of your lighting and composition may have made that impossible. If you entered this in the annual photo contest of your (or the subject's) County or State Fair, it would surely be well received and would deserve to win. It has everything: drama, humor, color, history, setting and great composition. And all done with what you call a "Junk Lens" in your header. Hahaha! Proof once again that it's not the equipment but the photographer who creates the perfect shot.

I would love to know more of the details behind this photograph: when and where it was taken, how you set it up, use of filters (if any), post-processing, and anything else about it. Are you a professional photographer? Did you have an assistant or crew to help you? How much time did you have to grab this "decisive moment" while the clouds remained visible? Did you "paint" the scene with light during your 6+ seconds exposure? I rarely see a photograph and think, "I wish I had done that," but in this case I do, although I never would have been smart enough to have put my primary flash behind the car, which is the very element that adds humor and elevates this photo from very good to greatness. Your picture wins my nomination and vote for Best Picture of the Month. Congratulations, Bruno, on a job very well done!

With kind regards,

Mark H.
