December, 2019 Runner-up: Killing time at Baker Street Tube Station
Contest Number: 160 Contest Theme: Open Lens: smc PENTAX-DA 35mm F2.8 Macro Limited Camera: PENTAX K-3 Shutter Speed: 1/125s Aperture: F5

Utilizing a familiar technique from street and travel photography where you look for an attractive backdrop location and then wait for people walking into it, I got pretty lucky with this one, both storytelling- and high-ISO-wise. The 35-mil FL proved ideal for this shot as it allowed me to include the whole scene and to shoot from the opposite platform, without drawing prolonged attention to myself.

Surely appreciated, Kerrowdown. The location was chosen, but really those two ladies gave me my shot, and I had only a few minutes at the station before my company would have got impatient with me, as we were actually headed to an art exhibition he was looking forward to.

So much better than my own photo, admittedly of many years ago. Love the light in this one, it has a certain Rembrandt-like feel to it. I frequented London a lot for work and shot quite a few shots in and around the tube - mostly with the GR though as I left my various Pentax bits 'nd pieces at home in favor of something light. I'm certainly going to copy your technique of finding "an attractive backdrop location and then wait for people walking into it" - that is just so awesomely simple yet entirely eluded my as an idea for, oh say 30 years or so?

Thanks for your kind words, newmikey. Surely, however, that technique is not my invention. Thirty-six years into my (amateur) photography journey, I'm still learning and here and there trying to pick up stuff that seems to be working for many street/travel photographers and photojournalists.
