Thanks indeed, turbot. What seems to be your first post on these forums seems to have been induced, of all things, by one of my humble photographic efforts - that's definitely an honour. Also, I'm intrigued to learn about how various and distinct responses and interpretations this shot seems to invite. Honestly, I didn't really aim for an "almost dystopian atmosphere", more being struck by the historic atmosphere of the location, its enduring ... I don't know ... relevance to Londoners' lives, and by the sheer humanity of what I was seeing. I was definitely not trying to censure these young women for what they are doing, which in their situation waiting for their trains probably makes even some sort of sense. If, in my photographic interest, I should have managed to capture a thin slice of zeitgeist, I would be thrilled, to be sure.
