Thank you very much Adam, and thanks to all the people voting for my photo!
It's a real honor to win, competing against such nice photos.

I thought I was in it for the fun and the challenge, but now that I've won, THAT feels like the most important thing

Well done Tommy.
An excellent image in every way. Bold, well contrasting colours; creatively framed and arranged subject matter; good use of DoF.
All equals winner.
Congrats.

Congrats to the winner and a quick "THANKS" to all for the votes. This was the first time I have entered a photo contest and to get so many votes was a real eye opener for me.

Again, congrats to the winner! That's a great photograph!!

Thank you! I liked the strong colors in your photo! Good job getting that background with the kit lens.

Thanks for the kind words! I don't like fall, but the colors in your photo make me long for next fall.

I had a hard time selecting the best out of four shots. They were all nice with the flowers popping through the snow, I had a few shots with blue flowers as well and one with both blue and yellow. They all had decent compositions but I thought they lacked something. That's when I got the idea to do a square crop.
For this particular photo, it made a nice improvement. Tweaked saturations and contrast just a little and added a light positive vignette.

If I remember correctly the snow was already gone and the flowers came up. Then we got more snow, but once a flower has seen the light, they seem to keep on going. I will look at them with even more joy next spring, thinking back on this contest.

The faded edges work well. Crisp & sharp. Top photo Tommy.
