I have lens and it takes excellent photos. I bought it because one of the photography magazines had a short article about it claiming jokingly that it was discontinued maybe because the quality was too high for affordable price. That was about two years ago and I think I got one of the last ones from B&H.

I don't know about plastic but the lens seems way to heavy to have much plastic. It really has a solid feel.

I also had this lens, and I do believe I was one of the very last ones to get it from BH. I recently sold mine due to the aquisition of the pentax 16-45mm. Some of my very best landscape shots were taken with that lens and a recent PPG accepted shot was with that lens. Very good lens for the price.

I have positive experience with this lens. A lens hood is recommended as the lens front element is huge. I will later add review to our database in pentaxforums, you can see pictures and my impressions in here:

Hinman:

You also mention Plastic Fantastic in your Tech Corner review. What is this in reference to? It doesn't feel like plastic. It's heavy.

John
The len's outside is all plastic and when I bought the lens from a good ebayer, he also uses that expression for the lens and I find it quite cute to call it that way. It may be misleading as the lens is heavy and you feel certain manhood in taking pictures with this lens.

This lens is not appreciated by many people. And in general, I don't think majority of Pentaxian are after the Tokina lens but rather the SMC and Pentax lens. I have a difficult time convincing others to pay attention to good gear from Tokina. I tried to sell my Tokina sz-x 287 28-70 f/2.8-4.3 with 'A' for two times with no interest at all. I suggest serious buyers to PM seller for a good deal. The price listed is already fair assuming it is good condition.

A sample picture to help the seller perhaps

I bought this lens for my daughter. After "testing" it to make sure that it was ok, I was VERY hesitant to pass it on to her. There are reviews in the third-party lens database.

I guess most people have this lens, which is why nobody is interested... If you don't have a copy, here's your chance!
