Need photoshop advice (solved)

Hello from Maine,

My brother has a print from a 100 year old photo of the house he just bought, he asked me to scan it and fix it up but I can't get it to look good.

Care to advise me?

Thanks,
Craig

Hi there. Hope you don't mind me taking some initiative.

I desaturated and straightened / cropped the image. I then did a global curves adjustment and a second curves selectively on the garage and roof.

Convert it to gray scale, fix the levels and perhaps the contrast, and then start fixing the blems.
I downloaded it. I'll give it 15 minutes of my time and post it back here for you.

Thank you guys

I can develop my RAW files, but I'm not good with such old photos.

What did you do?

It looks like you Photoshopped a microwave oven in there way in the back.

Plus, I see a bottle of Viagra sticking out of his pocket.

Here are just the people (at higher res)

I think I see two daughters, their grandmother sitting with a dog (who's moving and appears as a blur), father, then mother, and a plant hangs in the window.

Since no one is smiling I would guess this photo was taken before Kodak coined the term "Say cheese"

Busted....

Two layers, one for the sky, the other for the foreground.
Layer masked both layers, fixed the sky on one layer and then adjusted it till it blew out.
Adjusted the foreground layer until it popped a bit and then painted the sky layer mask to reveal it.
Like I said, it was a bit Q&D.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but thought I'd have a go at this.

Thank you Matt

And I don't see any problem with resurrecting an old thread
