OS X printer sharing and icc profiles

I'm setting up an older Mac as a file and print server. Do I need to calibrate the server and install ICC profiles for my printer or will ones on my working computer do?

Two ways this is handled:

1: setting color option in driver
2: setting color options in application

Either way the profiles need to be local to the machine sending the print job.

I would upload the profiles to the server as well just to be on the safe side.

Also keep in mind that Raster printers (most inkjet) and Postscript printers handle printing differently.

Raster printers print the image (bitmapped) after it has been processed, which the driver handles. postscript actually process the image in the printer based on what the postscript driver downloads (postscript code).

I hope this helps.

You need only the ICC profiles on your working computer. Your old Mac will only "pass through" the printing data. THe Mac is nothing but a print sever to your working machine and thus acts "dumb".
