New Flickr Format

I am not so sure I am overly impressed with Flickr's new format.

However, could somebody out there please advise how you download a photo from Flickr to the Forums. i.e. Competitions etc. from the new format Flickr.

Previously it was very simple.
Now I find it just ai'nt working

Hi Bruce:

Use the "Share This" link directly above the image. Then choose "Grab the link" and it gives you the URL.

As for the new look, there are as many things wrong with it as are right. I do like the fact the image is larger and the slideshow is easier to get to. But there are too many other distractions on the page. Worst of all is the map... a real eyesore.

The map can be removed, but you need to do it for every picture.

Er, yeah. Just a little tedious for 3,000 images!

I still did not notice any change on Flickr. I do remember some link more than a week ago saying 'take me to the future'?

I think I must have.

Apparently- 'When the new page is fully released, it will be the exclusive viewing option for all images on Flickr.'

Well I sat down try this out. To pick up a photo from Flickr and post in Forums.

1. Found the photo in Flick
2. Clicked on it to get large size.
3. Selected appropriate size
4. Clicked on "Share this Photo"
5. Clicked on "Grab the Link"
6. Copied URL which came up in square
7. Went to Forums and clicked on "Insert Image" (Small Picture of Mountain)
8. Pasted the Copied URL
9. Hit OK.
10. Hit Preview or Submit Reply.

Nothing, Zero.

This procedure is virtually what I have been doing Flickr/Forums for years.
What am I doing wrong that no picture will come up in Forums.

I must be missing something, but then, what's new?

I tried the new method and it does seem strangely complicated. The full HTML won't work when inserting it as an image unless you trim the crap out of it.

Example-

Full HTML code:

[IMG]<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/47074856@N02/4757319364/" title="Untitled by fractal*, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4119/4757319364_45d20c977c.jpg" width="500" height="335" alt=""></a>[/IMG]

This one will work with the [IMG] tags

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4119/4757319364_45d20c977c.jpg

It really shouldn't be that difficult though?

Except that Flickr requires that all images posted elsewhere link back to to the Flickr page. Copy the full HTML code and convert it using this utility:
OILU - Openforum Image Link Utility
The converted HTML may then be pasted directly into the forum message box.

The converted HTML from your example looks something like this:

[URL=http://www.flickr.com/photos/47074856@N02/4757319364/][IMG]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4119/...45d20c977c.jpg[/IMG][/URL]

Click the link in my previous post and tell me if it redirects you to my photostream.

What i'm starting to find annoying is that in the available sizes the 'original' option is larger than the real original image and looks really soft on flickr. Using my method I find they also look soft on the forum until you click on the image and looks about right.

Carl

I clicked on the link and it came up with B&W photo of the people in the street.
So that seems to be ok.

I personally think FFlickr has done itself a disservice.
I agree the much larger image is not that good.
Why couldn't they just leave well alone.
I will continue to play around here, and see what I can come up with.

Any further suggestions most welcome, from all.

Thanks Steve

Your solution (OILU) works very well. I can at least turn to that and know that it works for me.

Thanks again.

That has always been the case, since this board does not accept HTML codes. It uses BBcode instead.

I didn't know about that but have my own script to do this work. I was going to share it with everyone but now see there is no point.

EDIT: Although my script preserves the image title.
