Elements 8 display - a question

Don't know much about computers, so this may be a stupid question.
Recently bought a new Dell desktop (i5 750 processor, Windows 7) and installed Elements 8 on it. Still using the old 20" monitor.

When using Elements 8, the bottom commands are covered up by a very tall task bar. I can only see the photoshop choices semitransparently thru this bar. It is frustrating as heck. Have never seen a computer with such a thick bottom bar.

Is there a way to reduce the size of this bar? Is it because I am using a fairly small monitor? Is it something caused by windows 7? I absolutely love every other thing about this computer.
thanks

Sounds like you are seeing the Windows 7 taskbar. In Aero mode it can be semi-transparent. Right-click on the taskbar and select "Properties" if you get a popup menu. On the properties page is a checkbox to "Auto-hide the taskbar". Make sure it is checked, if not, click it to check it and then click the OK button at the bottom of the properties page.

If the box is already checked, the taskbar is poping up for a reason, like a message to be read on a window behind PE8.

If the taskbar is too big, you can select "Small icons" on that same properties page and even grab the top of the taskbar with the mouse pointer and a left-click and drag it to max or min size.

Make sure it is dragged down to the minimum size which is one icon high.

Hope these tips help.
