Pentax Photo Laboratory

I will soon begin working for the first time shooting RAW and converting with Pentax Photo Lab.

Using this software, do you use a checklist of steps for each photo you process? Certain steps before others?

Thanks

I haven't used PPL since 2006 but when I convert my raw images, the first thing I do is White Balance if needed, then Exposure Compensation. After that, it is a matter of your preferences and how much you want to do with a secondary post processing program.

Hi Magnum,

I have been using Pentax Photo Lab for quite some time now and, to be frank, I much prefer it over Adobe ACR. But that is another argument.

I usually do not do much from Pentax Utilities (Lab) except a slight touch up with the exposure and, if needed, white balance, much as atupdate mentioned in the previous post.
Then I just "save as" in TIFF format should that file be a "keeper" and would require fine tuning which I do with CS4; or simply as a JPEG file for "show".

Perhaps others use a much more elaborate workflow and I am sure some people will suggest other things as well.

On a side comment: I find Pentax Utilities better than ACR in rendering the original "true" colours and contrast of the RAW file. That again is a personal opinion.

Cheers.

JP
