Recommended LCD Monitors

Anyone have any suggestions for a good 20"+ sized LCD suitable for photo editting?

I use the Dell 2209WA.

22" IPS panel, 1680 x 1050 resolution. I'm happy with mine. They're listed at $399 now, but when they have the cash off offers, and you put a 15% off code on there as well, you can get them for close to $300 delivered.

Also, don't forget, the monitor is only part of the equation, and you should ideally calibrate it as well.

Thanks for the advice!

Yes I know calibration is part of it, but LCD's aren't LCD's.

Having use to sell LCD's, plasma tvs etc you appreciate the VAST differences between different model's and screens.

yesterday, after reading this, I went to Dell Canada. And found this monitor is currently selling for $250 after a $100 instant rebate. I bought one on the spot!

@ the OP,

If it's in your budget, you must look at the HP LP2480zx DreamColor; it is a 10-bit display. I just purchased HP's EliteBook 8740w equipped with the 1920x1200 DreamColor2 option, said to be the "little brother" of the LP2480z, and stunning is the right word for it. Be careful about the perspective of the display you get. So many displays are going the HD TV route, which chops some of the top and bottom of the display. To see the 2:3 photo our cameras take on the screen w/the least amount of gray bars you want to stay away from 16:9 perspective. If I'm buying a display for photo editing, I'd buy nothing less than 1920x1200 (and have not in the last 4 or 5 years).

+1 for the Dell 2209WA.

Dell Ultrasharp 2209WA Reviews

The Dell Ultrasharp 2311H is also an IPS screen. I haven't seen any reviews.

I don't know if we can get the same level of discounts that they have in Canada. I got a 15% discount through my RACV membership.

It's worth looking at Whirlpool to see if they have any other discount offers going at the moment.

Richard.

The big names in photo-quality displays are Eizo, NEC and LaCie. Having an IPS panel is an important factor (I've used good PVA displays, and blacks just block up when viewed front-on), but so too is gamut. I use a wide-gamut display (NEC Spectraview Reference 2690), and calibrate it with an i1D2. Wide-gamut displays have their issues - most applications look lurid viewed on one, and some calibration devices don't work with them - my Spyder3Elite doesn't calibrate my display correctly at all.

i have both the Dell U2311H and 2209WA. Both IPS screens are good. My personal opinion is that the 2311 has better contrast and the 2209 has more vibrant colors.

Both monitors are way too bright at default setting. I have to wear sunglasses. I adjust to something like 20%.

The 2209 seem to have a more natural aspect ratio for viewing photos. It has a lower reso than the 2311, however. The 2311 has a shorter screen height physically than the 2209.

I am pleased with both monitors but i would think the 2209 is better for photo editing.
