Which software do you use?

I figured this has been asked a thousand times, but as software evolves and tastes / preferences change, it's always good for refreshing our perspective.

I read of folks who use aperture exclusivly, photoshop exclusivly, and a balance mix between the two.

I primarily use aperture, and photoshop 25% of the time and I'm no expert.

I think photoshop is amazing. I got CS5 extended a few months back and am finding new features all the time. If anyone has CS5 be sure to explore the "Content-Aware" features, mainly the "spot healing brush" (with content-aware chosen) and the Content-Aware Fill.

Photoshop for all practical matters and galleries. However, since I use linux as my primary OS, I usually end up using gimp for any on-the-fly tweaks to individual images.

Most of my post is done in Lightroom 3 (guess that counts as Photoshop).

Since I'm on Linux I usually use a combination of RawTherapee and GIMP

I am using ACDsee3 and the beta4. I am very happy with it and is fast

Aperture 3 for image management and 99.9% of editing. P'shop Elements for the other .1

I use Pentax Digital Camera Utility (PDCU) 4.31 for the basic PP.

In addition I use a few dedicated PP softwares:
+ Noiseware Standard Standalone for noise reduction at High ISO,
+ PTLens for lens distortion and aberation corrections, and
+ Autostich for panorama.

Everyone is different. So far PDCU does all my needs, and I like the results as well as the workflow. If I am to upgrade, I would consider seriously Sylkpix since PDCU is based upon Sylkpix.

Food for thoughts...

My PC is slowly dying on me so when I buy a Mac I might try out Aperture, I hear good things about it. Of course I will have my PhotoShop safety net though.

J'utilise LightZone sous Linux, Mac et Windows. Très convivial!
Fait pour les photographes. Reconnait les fichiers raw de Pentax.
LightZone lightcrafts

Picasa le plus souvent.
The Gimp quelquefois
Surtout Lightzone pour les fichiers raw, merveilleux logiciel destiné aux photographes.

I'm using Bibble for the major work on both Linux and Windows. I print from Photoshop 6. For noise reduction Noiseware stand alone. Gimp is useful when I'm on the Linux machine.

CS5,LR3,and Nik software complete suite which I wouldn't be without at any price,plus Onone Genuine fractals for upsizing.Someone bought me a copy of Aperture 2 loaded it once and dumped it,maybe 3 is better haven't tried it.

The whole "digital darkroom" thing has been where I think most of my learning (and certainly most of my frustration

) has occurred. I was put off at first as I had been a pretty strict slide-only shooter when I shot film.

Later, as I learned how awesome having raw files to tweak was I relented. However, I still try to keep it as simple as possible and at the moment I use the most recent release of the Pentax DCU software for most of what I do in post. I also use PhotoScape for some things, in particular I find it is fantastic for resizing for the web and such.

I'm sure at some point I'll give Photoshop a try, but currently I'd rather spend that kind of money on lenses. I did try GIMP, but I didn't like the interface, and really didn't like the fact that it doesn't support 16 bit.

I'm in the process of migrating to LR3 from a weird workflow using PSE8 and FastStone. My head hurts but I think it'll be worth it.
