Darn it's only for CS5!

I feel so inadequate with my lowly CS4...

Photoshop Elements 8.0 and K-5 raw files

Adobe is out to get every penny from me. They're too cheap to upgrade camera raw in PE 8 to read K-5 raw files. I have to upgrade to PE 9 to reak K-5 raw files.

You would think they would support at least a couple earlier versions of PE to work with newer camera models.

I was really angry last year when I bought PE 8 and realized it had only very minor improvements or new features over PE 7 which I never use. And PE 9 isn't that much of an improvement over PE 8.

Bummer.

For those who don't have CS5 or PE 9, you can always download the FREE!!! DNG converter (version 6.3) and use that. And yes, I understand that it adds a step to your work flow. Linky here

NaClH2O ... CS4 works fine with the DNG from the K5, but I would have preferred working with the K5 specific PEF for lens and colour calibration.

Yes I prefer working with the PEF files too rather than DNG. I bit the bullet and purchased PE 9. Makes me mad though. You would think Adobe could be more flexible with loyal customers who have been purchasing PE since version 1. I just don't see the need to upgrade every single new version every single year. Their annual upgrades have minimal enhancements or new features.

Pat:
From what I understand if I shoot in PEF (and I do) and then convert to DNG, the lens specifics and calibrations etc get carried into the DNG file.

I moved this to digital processing because, while it does discuss the K-5, it's ABOUT the various software programs ability to read K-5 PEF, not about the camera itself.

I's suggest to use Pentax DCU to convert .PEF to .DNG instead of Adobe's product... that will be closer to in camera (native) .DNG

But the whole point of shooting PEF is to avoid native DNG. If I wanted to shoot DNG I'd shoot DNG. What I really want is native PEF, unfortunately anything older than CS5/PE9 cannot read K-5 PEFs. Hence comverting the in camera PEFs to DNG. Would Pentax DCU convert to a DNG that is closer to the native PEF?
