More interesting Topaz Denoise/Noiseware Comparison

This comparison is for Jodokast96, I hope a more interesting subject and clearer results showing the difference between these two very good pieces of software.

First Topaz Denoise 30 day trial full version and next Noiseware free version.

Topaz: Excellent job of denoising. Notice the detail preservation of the diagonal striping in the number 6 and relative lack of noise toward the edge of the label on the right. Not terribly slow, but not fast either.

Noiseware: For a freebie you can't beat this with a stick, however a step below Topaz. Notice more noise when compared with Topaz especially towards the right edge of the label. Also see the loss of detail in diagonal striping in the number 6. But quite a bit faster than Topaz.

Last we see the out of camera JPEG with no in-camera noise reduction applied. Note: Both Topaz and Noiseware beat Paint Shop Pro's noise reduction in both quality and speed.

Workingdog, you sure picked a good subject for this noise reduction test! Too bad I'm not drinking Lagavulin this evening. . . . Sigh.

And, yes, Topaz does a great job with that image, too. The shading in the 16 (well, the 6) looks lots better. Still, off to the right, DeNoise seems to retain a bit more detail, even if it is a bit rough.

I haven't looked at any of the other threads on these two apps, but maybe someone can briefly weigh in on this: is Topaz better than Photoshop at reducing noise? (I'm using CS3, for what it's worth.)

Thanks again for a little taste of paradise, Workingdog!

Even CS5 does nothing like the job that either of these apps. do.

I use DxO 6.5.2 nowadays, supplemented with Topaz if the image is still very noisy in shadows; but occasionally ACR 6.2 plus Topaz will do better.

Yes, a much better subject. Thank you. Just curious how much NR was applied?
