In-built HDR tone mapping or expo blending

I've notice that the results people are posting from built-in HDR found on the K-7 and the K-5 look a lot more like the results I get from using exposure blending than from the results of using tone mapping. Can any one confirm that the method used by these cameras is in fact exposure blending?
