View RAW Pics

What do you use to view your RAW pictures?
I been using Corel, but it takes forever to peruse through a few pics. I’ve tried Windows Photo Gallery and this pops up on the screen ‘Photo Gallery can’t open this photo or video. This file format is not supported, or you don’t have the latest updates to Photo Gallery’ . I’ve updated Windows till I’m blue in the face.
My camera is a K200d and setting are;
File Format: RAW
RAW file format: DNG
Color Space: sRGB

Oh, and if I shoot Jpeg the pictures pop up just fine on Windows. Is there a fix for Windows Photo Gallery, or should I load something else?

Thanks

It you are not using 64-bit Vista or W7 you can download the codec from the Pentax website that will let it show the images:

PENTAX RAW codec software for Windows : Software Downloads : PENTAX

I use Infranview if I want a quick look see for DNG files. It is a free program and you can add the RAW option for free also. It has a small footprint size wise and you get full screen viewing rather quickly.

I would highly recommend that you give FastStone a try. I have been using it for years and it is great freeware.

If you are going to use Fastone, read the discussion part-way down this page:

I use Photoshop CS5 but there are definitely cheaper alternatives out there.

I downloaded Windows update that didn’t help. So out of frustration I loaded Infranview.
Still can’t see RAW. I’m baffled.

There's a package to be downloaded with Infranview that contains the extras that allow you to view your choice of raw files.
it's here: IrFanView Plugins - Software.com

Sorry its taken so long to respond. 'Windows' viewer is now working and IrFranView works a lot better. Life is a lot easier now!

Infranview, with the Addons, support viewing the Pentax and other RAW formats. The output is OK, eg. good to see what you shot. Use the Pentax software for the final conversion.

Also, with Infranview you can batch convert the raw into TIFF/JPG.

I used Free Photo Viewer before I got Lightroom. Now, I just do almost everything in Lightroom.
