Should I upgrade my monitor

This thread is a bit like the 'New Monitor advice thread' further down, but I'd like to keep this one - on monitor - so to speak...

I have a Dell Ultrasharp 2209wa. It is an IPS monitor though a cheap one. I calibrate with an Eye 1 display 2

My concern is when calibrating I have to set my contrast to 100 in order to get the calibration with my Xrite i1 to work. The first step is to set the contrast to 100, and then adjust it to calibration. Unfortunately, at 100 it's spot on and any adjustment down brings it out of the recommended range.

I understand that monitors are not going to work properly with the contrast maxed out.

So, I guess I have a couple questions. Am I screwing up the calibration?

If not, is contrast at 100 bad as I suspect?

If so, will I be better served to upgrade to another IPS in the $300-400 range?

If so, can I have a few specific recommendations?

Thanks,

Ken

Maybe it would be worth using Dell's monitor forum to see what other people's experience of calibrating this monitor is. However I suspect it's fine, since you say the calibration is spot on.

When I say the calibration is correct, I mean to say that the Xrite i1 display 2 says it is....

So, do you trust the Xrite? If not there's surely not much point to using it?
