Does anyone know of a good software program for renaming of photos in batch format? say I wanted to rename an entire folder of christmas photos to "christmas1, christmas 2, etc.."
much appreciated if you know of one!
Thanks

You can do this with PDCU:

Check all the files in a list.

Go to the Check list. Select all files.

Then select: File/Process Multiple files
and select the relevant filenames

Hope that the comment wil help.

You can also do it via photoshop (just make an action that does nothing but save the photo).

Or, I can write you a program

AFAIK, in batch mode, you can't name them what you want, or as an action, they will just all save as your initial action name over and over. Rather than increasing numbers... Right?

If you have Photoshop, this is really a job for Bridge. Tools -> Batch Rename should give you more options than you'll ever need.

I use the XnView image browser. It provides various batch renaming strategies: templates with sequences, replacements, etc, with case significant (or not, as you wish). It also identifies image files lacking extensions, by their internal headers. This makes it easy to deal with piles of mixed files and name them appropriately (or not, if you wish!) And it builds slideshows and does many other fine tricks.

I also used Batch File Renamer (listed above) but since I gave up Windows for Linux I've founder Metamorphose does a wonderful job.

---interruption to this thread for a comment ---

This entire thread is one of the reasons I like hanging around here.

Someone asks a question and everyone jumps in with their solutions. If their solution ISN'T the same as someone else's, NO ONE starts getting on their high horse as to why their solution is the best.

Long may this attitude continue.

--- now back to the solutions ---

XnView can do a zillion things - it's free - it's small & portable (can run from a USB stick).

Here's the batch renaming screen (example includes consecutive renumbering as requested by SlickYamaha):

See a more comprehensive coverage of some of XnView's features here:
