Question about .PEF and Elements 9 Conversion

Greetings-

I've been doing PP in Elements 9 with PEF images in RAW and enjoying it, but can't seem to figure out how to then export the images in a usable format (e.g. JPEG) that can be easily opened, emailed, or uploaded into a photo site like Smug Mug. I can export them to the desktop, say, and they show as PEF or DNG, but won't open without Elements, or convert.

All ideas are greatly welcome. I have quite a few images to process that are PEF.

Many thanks.

After editing in PSE when you save your file and click on save as, a dialog box pops up and one of the options is format and clicking on the arrow, it brings up all the different file formats you can choose to save your edited image. Choose JPEG which is what most people use to post online.

I have been trialing PSE 9, and am also a Smugmug user. Like mentioned above, after you do your RAW adjustments and/or post processing, just save as jpeg or PSD. Then go to the Share menu and choose Smugmug. PSE 9 seems to automatically convert a PSD to jpeg and upload to Smugmug. If it is already a jpeg, then it will just upload it normally.

Also, if your Adobe RAW default is 16bit, you must convert the image either in Adobe RAW or in PE9 to 8bit in order to have JPG as a format option.

Thanks everyone. That nails it and confirms what I was doing wrong. I was editing the images in the Elements Organizer, which doesn't give the same Save choices as you've described when editing them in Elements itself, at least I couldn't see how. Seems like it should.

All the best.
