This maybe of intrest to jpg shooters and photographers swapping over to pentax from nikon ! ( Dont Discard Capture NX 2 )
One of the biggest benafits of shooting in RAW is the ability to bring out detail in dark areas without afecting the light areas,
and vice versa ! I opened up jpg from my pentax K5 and was surprised and delighted that Shadow and Highlight protection was still available.
It works superbly too i might add, as did unsharp mask etc. Very fast and amazing results ! Pity it wont accept raw grrrrrr

You could convert Pentax RAW to TIF with no loss with the Pentax software and then subsequently work the TIF files in NX2, I suppose.

Thats very true indeed, but i tend to keep away from tiffs because of the huge file sizes.
What I did find intresting is just how well the jpg
responded to shadow and highlight control and
unsharp mask. I did a raw variant in CS4 and in
all honnesty I couldnt spot the differance. I was truly impressed.
