Marc,
Thanks, probably seems like a dumb question to most everyone else but something I needed to know.Shot some today saving both jpg and raw, will process the raw to see if I can come out any better with it.
Thanks,
Jake
Remember - if all you do is do a straight conversion with no adjustments, there should be no significant difference, depending on what program you use to do the conversion. No difference whatsoever if converting using the Pentax software.

The only way you will see a difference is if you do some adjustments on the RAW file before converting to JPEG, then perform the same sort of processing on the shots you took in JPEG. For small adjustments, there will still be little or not discernible difference. But trying doing something like changing WB from tungsten to shade, or pushing the exposure by 2 EV, or a similarly extreme curve manipulation, and the difference will be quite clear; Performing those operations on JPEG won't produce nearly as good results as performing them on RAW.

Hi
This looks like a film image, in which case you need a scanner.

And by the way 640 mb ram is woefully inadequate! Memory is cheap, you need lots of it if you want to shift around huge digital images on the computer. Particularly RAW files which will be some 22MB in size and if you convert these to TIF files they can be as big 50MB. So when you apply a filter to any of those with your misery 640mb be prepared to put up a bed next to your computer because you will be taking plenty of naps.

Greetings

I've been using Sagelight for several years and find it a good program for raw conversion and quick editing. What I like most about it is it's contrast control, which works almost as well as a dedicated plug-in.

What little processing from raw files have ben doing it the correct way, processing raw before converting to jpg but an running into to other problems for which I will start another thread.Low memory doesn't seem to be a problem running small processors like Faststone or Photoscape as it is XP but raw files will quickly fill the hard drive.
Thanks,
Jake
