It's hard for me to decide which data are useful for the user, and which data are useless.
For one, the informations about the battery could be useful, for others it could be useless - that's why I show all informations and let the user decide which informations he want to see.

Some things I would enjoy seeing in the program ...

I'd like to left-click the thumbnail to bring up a larger (user selectable size) image with the focus point overlay. While in this mode the current RGB values would be displayed for the current cursor location.

I'd like to use the left-right arrow keys to select the previous-next image in the current working directory.

I'd like to be able to right-click a tag ID and select display suppression for that tag. The suppression data would be maintained in a unique 'suppressed tag' file for each camera model.

Hello!

The File, Edit, View,..., Help menu bar is an industry standard. I'd bet some of the readers just looked up at the top of their browser and saw: File, Edit, View,..., Help .

I don't like programs with hundreds of menu items and sub menu items, and sub menu items of the sub menu items, so that you need to search what you are looking for.

The "design" of PhotoME is very common in Windows. It's used in the Control Panel, in the Search dialog, in many places in the Windows Explorer, Help menu and so on.

But if PhotoME get more features, maybe some day I need to do a menu too.

That's already on my to-do-list for one of the later versions.

I'll think about that for one of the next releases.
If everything works well, the next version will have an integrated file browser mode with preview images, so switching between the images will be easily possible.

Looking at the first shot I took with a new K100D Super the shutter count shows 336. I'm assuming this value is for the number of shutter releases. If that is the case it seems as though Pentax tested the camera before it was packaged or the value is incorrect.

On a side note my camera was built the day after my birthday.

I'm sure they fire off the shutter many times at the factory while calibrating the camera.

My K10D had 290 shutter releases from the factory.

After seeing this program mentioned several times on this site, i downloaded it today. All I can say is, WOW, that's a lot of info it gives you! Very cool program. I was surprised to see my *ist DL has 6060 shutter releases. I knew I shot a lot at events, but didn't realize they added up so soon.

Pretty cool stuff! I've spent a LOT of time trying to extract EXIF data using PHP, and the common stuff is easy enough to find, but the camera specific info.. Brrr.

Unfortunately I do not have a Windows machine at home (yup, Mac).. Anyone know if there's a plugin around to show same info in Lightroom?

Want to share how you did that? Back when I tried this I had to search around for tables containing text belonging to the codes that were in the EXIF file... Big mess and lots of un-documented entries.

Enough info on the 'other two' but very little on the PK10D (this was dec 06)

So if you have an AppleScript or whatever you used to get this info, and you're willing to share, please do!

As for the thermometer - yes, the temp of the sensor is important to know. I have read (but can not find the reference) that the Canon 40D was having issues with live view - such that the LCD would go blank as the sensor overheated. Now, not only do we have to deal with small screens - we are going to have to deal with water cooled cameras. Good Grief - the D3 body is 3lbs by itself - add in another for fast glass, add a few more for water cooling and you will have to hire a Sherpa.

hey fishy - very sorry - i thought i posted the details on what i did... but i didnt - my appoligies - i used the PERL script exiftool http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ExifTool-7.08.dmg to get the actual data out of the image file... i am hopeing to get a few minets on my computer away from my camera to actually write a nice front-end for the script as its wonderfull but i see sooooo much potential for it... if you would like to email me via my profile here i would love to work with someone who has a bit more idea of what they want out of it then i do..

i have SOME of the programing background to be able to bring something together... and it sure would be an intresting taks, i have often found that writing something like that helps to really learn and understand what is happening and what i am doing...

Thanks for the post, I'll go and play when I have a minute.

What I wanted to do back then was write my own photo archive DB, where I could store and find images based on keywords and settings. That need has mostly been filled by Lightroom now.
What I still want to be able to do is see the EXIF data Lightroom doesn't give me. Maybe one day a publishing tool.. Not sure. One nice idea might still be an index (MySQL?) of interesting EXIF settings to see what I do most.. So my current interest is purely play (and a bit of frustration maybe)

do you know if there is a demo of lightroom someplace - i can have a look at the API and see if i can write a simple plugin where you can apple-shift-click on the picture and select exif-data from the popup menu and then have the full data in there... btw - anyone else intrested in such features for lightroom the API is @ Adobe Labs - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.3 Export SDK

it might be easire to NOT use the lightroom api and just write a script for the scriptmenu that does it...

BUT, a couple of surprises - seems my *ist DS has a thermometer???? (Wow, who knew???!!!) and I've had almost 14000 shutter releases . (Note to self - don't use continuous mode when taking pics of the grandkids, or the dogs for that matter!! )
