bigger screen on a laptop

Is it possible to use a 1920 x 1200 screen with a laptop's graphic card?

the screen on my laptop is too small and seems difficult to calibrate properly (if at all possible)

I am not into gaming- PP would be the main use

thanks for your help

It should with any modern notebooks. 99% of notebook monitors are cheap TN with poor viewing angle and impossible to calibrate. I am not aware of any IPS monitor with 1920x1200. 24" are usually 1920x1600, or 23" 1920x1080. External TN will be a waste of money for PP IMHO.

I'm not familiar with this acronym- TN?

there are 1920x1200 IPS monitors, not too expensive, either:
Amazon.com: Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24" LED LCD Monitor - 16:10 - 8 ms: Electronics
definetedly cheaper than a new PC (at least here in Norway)

It's a good monitor. You can see the review here.

My wife's laptop has crappy colors even when I calibrated., Most laptops can be connected to an external monitor but since I have not tried it, not sure which size/resolution it will run. likely will drain your battery quickly so best to have the laptop plugged in as well

good luck

I'm running 1920 x 1200 on a Lenovo W700 17" laptop.
It's running fine, an i'm very happy with the large resolution.
But offcourse not the same as a larger dedicated screen

I have been running my home based laptop through an external 19inch monitor for years...wayyyy better than the laptop screen.

Laptops suck arse unless you pay huge dollars. That's why I use lenovo and dock to a proper screen.

I have a couple of year old laptop with a 1gb graphics card and i7 processor and it can use a 1080p monitor and my laptop monitor at the same time with no problems. If you're laptop has a graphics card I would think it would easily be able to display that resolution fine.

I have been reading the reviews of the Dell U2412M Dell U2412M Review
and the Dell U2410 Dell U2410 Review

the U2410 boasts with a 110% colour gamut whereas the U2412M covers approx. the sRGB colour space (95,8%)

has this any importance for me as a home-PP-user?

thanks for your help!

I would opt for the U2410 which has better panel (8bit vs 6bit, 102% vs 74.3% aRGB). The difference is that the better one will be able to reproduce the colour more accurately and covers the full AdobeRGB for PP. You still need to calibrate it though, and watch for the pink/green colour shift with LG made H-IPS panels. Also, the CCFL backlight used on the U2410 will take longer reaching full brightness depends on the room temperature.
