B/W Conversions (3 images)

I've seen some excellent conversions on this forum and recently visited newcomer "ftpaddict's" B/W gallery, so I'm trying some.

Can you tell me what you think of the following. Suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

hi jc, like the shots a lot.....what are your steps in conversion ? and what software are you using.
i am a little partial to high contrast, but try hard not to blow out midtones in the meantime. when that happens to me i usually use an adjustment layer (selective color ) ( white, neutral, black } to recover mid-tones yet maintain contrast.

I've had Virtual Photographer from OptikVerve Labs for a long time. When I contacted Dan (ftpaddict) he gave me some pointers so decided to try it again. BTW, he has some real nice B/W conversions.

VirtualPhotographer is FREE and is available here Welcome to optikVerve Labs - Home of virtualPhotographer

I would appreciate further comments guys. Thanks

Hello JC,

I like the test2 image, which gives the structure of walls nicely and the bright sun. The test1 is little bit spooky or moonlit ...

I have also used sometimes the Virtual Photographer ... you can adjust things rather nicely (sometimes too many options to try ... )

I guess I missed this the first time around somehow.
Interesting subjects for B&W. they work well. I like Test #2 best. It gives enough variation from the dark and light areas to see the image better. It seems to have more depth and draws you eye in better. I know it's not a "true" B&W as there is some tint to it, but it works well. Test #1 is good as well, 2 is better.
The last shot is tough to say. I think I'd like to see more detail in the wall's surface. It seems just a little too bright for me. Good subject though and well composed.
