Photo Editing Monitor

About to buy a new computer, so I'm looking for the best Monitor for say under $1000.
I'll probably be getting a Dell XPS. Thanks, Jeff

I had been searching for another monitor myself and, after much searching, I found these:
Not sure if some of them are now outdated and replaced with newer models.

Dell - UltraSharp U3011 30-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
$1399 >> now $1049

Dell - Ultra Sharp U2711 69cm (27-inch) Monitor with PremierColour
$999

NEC
24" Widescreen Colour-Critical Desktop Monitor
from $829

NEC Display Solutions
NEC MultiSync LCD1990SXi-BK - LCD monitor - 19" - 1280 x 1024 - 270 cd/m2 - 600:1 - 18 ms - DVI-I, DVI-D, VGA - black
$729

Medium Budget $500 to $1000
For medium budget monitors, recommendation for 24″ monitors by Dell, NEC, HP and Asus. Specifically, Dell U2412M, Dell U2410, HP LP2475W, NEC LCD2490WUXi and Asus PA246Q

Also:
1. Eizo FlexScan S2233WFS-BK 22″ LCD Display for $769.95
2. NEC MultiSync 2490WUXi2-BK 24″ Widescreen LCD Display for $699.95

I would certainly go for an Eizo but the price is usually very high for larger sizes.

Anyway, I hope this helps .... I will continue my own search as well.

Cheers.

JP

Just a thought (in case you haven't considered it yet). Whichever monitor you go with, try to see if it's available with a matte screen (rather than glossy) I know almost every company is pushing super glossy glass screens with richer saturated colours and high contrast, but a matte screen solves reflection issues and apparently is more accurate to our eyes and more representative of what the prints will end up looking like. (assuming both the matte and glossy screens are calibrated properly, matte is better for photographers who post process, while glossy MIGHT appear better for displaying photos to clients)

Not at this price range except Apple, but for this price and for photo you want aRGB anyway and no Apple screen cover that so that's easy.

Why does everyone feature glossy screens nowadays? It is so damn hard to find something decent with a matte screen anymore.

A regular contributer in Shutterbug, David Brooks, does a monthly column on monitors and processing. He ranks the NEC monitors highly as well as the Dell. Here's the link for the Dell review.
Dell UltraSharp U2410 LCD Display; They Call It Premier Color? And It Is | Shutterbug
It might be worth searching for his other articles on the site as they all deal with monitors, calibration devices and software, etc and specificly for photographers.
