Opinions please

I have tried several "deblurring, enhance focus, sharpen etc, etc programs and plugins and have come to this conclusion. All they basically do is increase artifact. At first glance there is some sharpening but also an equal amount of noise/artifact. Removing the noise/artifact just brings one back to pretty much where the image started in the first place. Anyone else get different results, if so, what did you use?

There are some plugins which, used sparingly, can have reasonable positive enhancing effects. But none of them is a substitute for learning how to use Photoshop.

Try DxO with supported lenses.

With an image with noise sharpening is always a problem, i mostly do it selectively then.

As a rule of thumb, if you're getting artifacts, you're applying too much. Even the best ones have their limits, and beyond those limits, they will quickly ruin an image.

Nik makes an absolutely fantastic plugin for this. As mentioned above, apply sparingly whatever you use.

It all depends how out of focus the original image is. Deconvolution/deblurring cannot perform miracles. I use Topaz InFocus to deblur virtually every TIFF immediately after processing out of raw, and I am quite satisfied with the results. I use only the deconvolution feature with no unsharp masking. The AA filter in most digital cameras produces blurring that is best removed early in the editing process, but one should avoid overdoing it.
